PRODUCT REVIEWS:
UTG AK47
Wow, I must say things are moving at a rapid pace in the airsoft industry.
I have yet another product review this week! The UTG folks have sent us
a top secret sample of the new UTG AK47. From what I understand the UTG
AK47 will hit the market late December to sometime in January, but nothing
is confirmed yet.

When I received the package, I couldnt wait to check it out. Pulling
the gun out of the non-descript sample box I noticed that it was a bit
different looking than the Marui version. The first thing I noted was
the tri rail mount built into the upper receiver. Upon removal of the
upper, I noted that it was screwed in from underneath. This means if you
dont like the look of it, you can remove the mount.

The other thing I noticed was the color of the gun. The fake wood was
much darker than the Marui. It had a slight gloss finish to it. The simulated
wood grain is not as realistic looking as the Marui version to me, but
its still ok. I noted that while the gun was mostly plastic, they
did use quite a few metal parts. The butt plate, sling mounts, trigger,
trigger guard, selector switch, bolt, upper receiver cover, adjustable
rear sight, outer barrel, cleaning rod and front sight were all metal.
The rear sight is adjustable as you can see here. You can also see me
working the spring loaded bolt action to expose the adjustable hop up.

The upper tri rail is a nice feature, because you can mount any combination
of aiming devices to your gun.
Next up was testing the gun. Included with the UTG AK47 are two hicap
magazines. Unfortunately, these are not Marui compatible, as the mag catch
is a bit higher on this model. The magazines hold about 400 rounds each.
From our testing they seemed to work reliably, we did not note any feeding
issues. The gun shot an average of 280 fps with .20g bbs. I was pleased
with the velocity.

The battery that was included with the gun was a 8.4v 1200mah large type
battery. I believe that the battery is NiCad, although there is no indication
of this printed on the battery. This should still give you adequate run
time on the field, and you can always buy a higher rated Inertia Generator
if you want more power.

I took a peek inside the gun to see what kind of mechbox they packed
inside. I was pleased to see it was an actual version 3 compatible mechbox.
This will give you some good upgrade choices if you like to tinker.

We can't wait to get some of these in, they should be an affordable alternative
to the Marui AK47. We'll keep you posted on any updates about this gun.
